In order to reduce the consumption of energy needed for heating and cooling the offices, particular elevations of the building are precisely oriented toward the points of the compass. In the direction where the risk of loss of energy is the greatest, walls with increased insulation factors are used. Double-glazing is also used throughout, with glass preventing excessive energy loss.
Buildings C, D and E at Flanders Business Park were designed in accordance with the requirements for international BREEAM certification for a “very good” rating. The office buildings, constructed of ecologically certified materials, consume on average 50% less energy and 40% less water than ordinary office buildings. Waste generation will be reduced by 70% and greenhouse gas emissions by 35%. It is estimated that the pro-ecological solutions will allow for a decrease of operating costs of up to 50%, while making the project environment-friendly.
